Future of AI in Education

  • What are some concrete ways educators and curriculum developers can evolve their respective practices to accommodate generative AI applications?
  • What is the next AI application that's going to make waves, after generative AI?
  • Where is AI going in the next five years and how will it impact teaching and learning?
  • What are some current elements in education we want to keep going forward, and how can AI tools be used to further those foundational elements? (For example, a foundational educational goal I have is that students use reading and writing as a way to think through their own personal identity and beliefs and notice and query their current world view with an eye to articulating to themselves and others how they want to live their lives and their own ethical formulation of the worthwhile life.)
  • How likely is such a future to come about, given the current status of AI development, resources needed, etc?
  • How do those in the industry envision AI will advance education most positively in 6 years and in 24 years? 
  • How can we effectively connect the world of work and world of learning in an AI-propelled future?

Ethics and Inclusionary Practices

  • What role will Big Tech play in creating AI driven productivity tools and platforms that can be embedded in/customized for education use cases vs what will education specific actors need to build for themselves?

Current State of AI and Education

  • What can those of us in education learn from those in other fields who are struggling with related  issues?
  • What is the role of cognitive and behavioral psychologists so far in the development of this technology?  
  • How does AI change what we teach in schools?
  • How do we best evaluate AI education systems?
  • What data schemas can we all work with, and how are they developing?

  • To me there seems to be an association between AI in education and doing things better, faster, and bigger. I doubt that this is desirable in all cases. Can AI also help us slow down? And how?
  • What superpowers can AI give teachers...and what superpowers would teachers be better served without?
  • What are the dimensions along which we should fine-tune models? By school district? By grade level? By subject matter?

Job Market and Workforce Impacts

  • What needs to be done to introduce the workforce and parents to innovations in AI and Education? How do we avoid the challenges of much simpler innovations such as the introduction of computers and smart boards into classrooms?
