Pamela Chen

Pamela is a creative director who began her career as a trained photojournalist with a concentration in mathematics, a path which continues to shape her work exploring the intersection of culture, design and technology. Over the past 15 years, she has been a builder at three institutions: most recently at Instagram and previously for National Geographic and George Soros’ Open Society Foundations. She has the unique distinction of running the world’s two largest social media accounts between 2012-2018, during a pivotal era when platforms scaled from human-powered content discovery to algorithmic content personalization. She is 2020 HAI-JSK Fellow at Stanford looking at multimodal content design for image-centric memetic networks.
