Scientific progress is a key driver of economic growth and prosperity. There is great excitement- but also concerns- about the impacts of AI on science, but so far little data. We provide early insights on this from three data sources: a sample of 15 million Gemini interactions, an inventory of over 2,600 specialized AI models across disciplines, and a survey of over 600 scientists.

Cory Doctorow is a science fiction author, journalist, blogger, and advocate for liberalizing copyright laws, online privacy and ethical technology use. His latest novel, Attack Surface, follows a programmer for a surveillance company who assuages her conscience by helping dissidents evade detection. When the tools she’s designed are used to target old friends, she’s forced to choose where her allegiances lie.

Attack Surface is a compelling story of a tech worker confronting the ethics of her work that asks its readers to do the same. Join us for an open Q&A on his work!
