Farnaz Jahanbakhsh

HAI Postdoctoral Fellow

Farnaz is a postdoctoral fellow at HAI working with Professors Sanmi Koyejo and Michael Bernstein. She received her PhD in Computer Science from MIT where she was advised by David Karger. Her research is in the field of Human-Computer Interaction and Social Computing and is aimed at re-imagining the design of social information spaces such as social media and the web to achieve greater end-user empowerment. She holds a M.Sc. in CS from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and a B.Sc. in Computer Engineering from Sharif University of Technology. Farnaz's research attempts to increase end-user autonomy. She has explored this in the context of misinformation moderation by empowering users, via tools that work on the web, to have a say in what content is misinforming or otherwise problematic, whose assessments of content accuracy they trust, and what they want to do with the problematic content that they encounter.
