Workshop Details

Stanford HAI will host a workshop to support Stanford faculty in forming long-lasting interdisciplinary research collaborations that have the potential to address significant challenges related to AI.

The event will connect scholars across Stanford’s seven schools to discuss their fields and develop new project ideas focused on the human and societal impact of AI, its ability to augment human capabilities, and its development as inspired by human intelligence.

Some collaborations could lead to a letter of intent for the Stanford HAI Hoffman-Yee Research Grants, a premier program that can lead up to $2.5 million in funding. But the event’s goals are much broader, explains Stanford HAI Associate Director James Landay. “This is a research matchmaking event,” says Landay, a professor of Computer Science. “We want people to meet other faculty who are doing interesting work who they don’t already know and find potential collaborators. Some may write a Hoffman Yee proposal, but our goal is really to foster new collaborations more generally and build lifelong research relationships.”

During the event, faculty connect to explain their research interests and consider possible areas of overlap.

“Each scholar will be able to connect with faculty from a range of disciplines to see what research ideas spark,” says Vanessa Parli, HAI Interim Research Director.
