Luca Mondonico

HAI Data Science Scholar

External Bio

I am a PhD candidate in Materials Science and Engineering at Stanford University, with a minor in Computer Science, advised by Professors Zhenan Bao and Yi Cui. My research lies at the intersection of machine learning, materials science, and human-centered sensing. I develop predictive and generative models for molecular design and materials discovery, combining large-scale computational screening with experimental validation to accelerate next-generation energy-storage technologies. In parallel, I develop efficient machine learning methods for wearable and edge devices, with applications in wearable health and activity sensing where computation, latency, power, and privacy are key constraints.

Previously, I worked on Tesla’s battery teams as a Cell Engineer and Materials Engineer. I earned my B.S. from Politecnico di Milano and my M.S. from ETH Zürich. Outside of research, I enjoy playing volleyball and previously competed professionally in Italy.
