Stanford AI4ALL

Overview

Stanford AI4ALL aims to increase diversity in the field of artificial intelligence. During this three-week online program, students are immersed in AI through a combination of lectures, hands-on research projects, and mentoring activities.

Participants engage with professionals in the field to learn about cutting-edge ideas, such as how AI can be applied in medicine, disaster response, and combatting poverty. Applications open January 8, 2024.

Mission and Goals

  • We aim to educate and excite students about the field of artificial intelligence by providing exposure to a variety of AI topics. Students will not only go in-depth on some of the cutting-edge ideas in AI but will also explore the potential of AI to improve society.
  • We aspire to help students foster personal growth through career development workshops and mentoring.
  • We work with the Stanford AI Lab to provide students a hands-on experience with real, significant research projects.
  • We aim to build a close-knit community and encourage interest among underrepresented populations in the field. Program attendance will be limited to reflect these goals.

Curriculum Objectives

AI education & inspiration: Participants attend online lectures with Stanford faculty in CS, AI, and related fields.

Personal growth: A key part of the program is small group mentoring sessions with AI faculty and senior AI researchers. Participants also attend online lectures by experts in career and personal development and social events with Stanford AI graduate students.

Hands-on experience: Participants engage in small-group research projects led by graduate students and post-docs in Computer Science and AI. The research focuses on the societal impacts of AI and how AI can be used to address some of our world’s most pressing problems.

AI4ALL FAQ

Who is eligible to apply for the AI4ALL Program?

  • Stanford AI4ALL is open to current 9th-grade students (rising 10th graders during the summer) eager to explore the exciting field of AI and increase diversity in the field.

What is the criteria to be accepted into this program?

  • Stanford AI4ALL considers all applicants equally. However, here are some key characteristics we look for in applicants:

    • Excel in academics

    • Passion for STEM

    • History of pursuing interests or being self-motivated

    • Outreach or volunteer experience

    • Demonstrated problem-solving and math skills

    • Leadership Skills

    • Good recommendation letter

When is the AI4ALL program taking place?

  • Camp Dates: July 8 - 26, 2024

When is the deadline to apply?

  • The original deadline is Feb 20th, 2024. 

  • The extended (and final) deadline is March 25th, 2024.

How much does the program cost?

  • The cost of the program is $4,000 in a one-time payment. 

Is there financial aid available?

  • Yes. The financial aid application is here. If awarded financial aid, one would receive either 100%, 50% or 25% off of the program cost. 

How do I submit the request for references?

  • You will submit the information for your reference on Slideroom, including their name, email, phone number, title, and any other details you'd like to add. Once you submit that information, Slideroom will send an email to the reference email requesting the letter. The teacher will upload the letter via the link sent to them.

How long does my reference have to submit the letter on Slideroom?

  • They will have 7 days from the time the request was sent to them to submit the letter on Slideroom. Please make sure to communicate this with your reference separately to ensure they submit it on time.

Can I email my reference letter?

  • We prefer them to be submitted on Slideroom via the link sent to the reference by email. But, in a worst case scenario where you or the reference experience any technical difficulties with Slideroom, they can send it directly to Mariam Elghani

I submitted my application. Now what?

  • We will go through an application review process for several weeks. We take time to thoroughly review each applicant. Applicants will be notified of their admissions decision on April 29th, 2024 and be granted admission or waitlisted. Incomplete applications will not be considered for review and therefore denied consideration for the program. Thank you for your patience!
