Derek Chong

Derek Chong is an M.S. Computer Science student in the Natural Language Processing Group at Stanford University. His research focuses on the technical advancement and societal impact of large language models (LLMs). Derek is committed to driving positive change through the thoughtful application of technology, a passion he has pursued throughout a diverse career in technology consulting and entrepreneurship. Most recently, Derek served as an Applied Scientist at Ello Technology, Inc., where he leveraged cutting-edge LLM research to develop content generation pipelines aimed at improving reading acquisition in struggling learners.
Derek holds dual bachelor's degrees in Computer Engineering and Commerce from the University of Melbourne, Australia. His current research projects involve enhancing the reasoning and generalization capabilities of LLMs, and exploring the use of simulations to accelerate hypothesis generation and experimentation in political science.
