Emanuel Moss conducts ethnographic research on issues of fairness and accountability in AI systems. He is a researcher for the AI on the Ground Initiative (AIGI) at Data & Society and a research assistant on the Pervasive Data Ethics for Computational Research (PERVADE) project. He is also a doctoral candidate in cultural anthropology at the CUNY Graduate Center, where he is studying machine learning from an ethnographic perspective and the role of data scientists as producers of knowledge. He is particularly interested in how data science, machine learning, and artificial intelligence are shaped by organizational, economic, and ethical prerogatives.
