What is Model Context Protocol (MCP)?

Model Context Protocol (MCP) is an open standard that enables AI applications to connect to external data sources and tools through a unified interface, like a universal adapter for AI systems. It allows AI models to securely access databases, APIs, files, and other resources without requiring custom integrations for each data source. MCP makes AI assistants more capable by giving them controlled access to the context and tools they need to complete tasks.
