The Stanford Institute for Human-Centered AI is pleased to announce that the global  insurance group AXA has joined as a member of the Stanford HAI Industrial Affiliate Program.

The program brings industry together with Stanford faculty to explore research, policy and education opportunities around responsibly building and implementing artificial intelligence.

As a new member, the AXA Group will work with faculty and students to better understand and leverage human-centered artificial intelligence. The AXA Group is particularly interested in research topics relevant to the insurance sector and society at large, such as the use of AI to quantify sustainability metrics and analyze prediction capabilities, as well as to improve large language model reasoning and the robustness of machine learning in areas including fairness, bias and interpretability.

“Stanford HAI’s mission is to ensure that we properly design and build human-centered AI to have positive human impacts,” said HAI Co-director James Landay. “This is imperative in the insurance and financial industries; AI will have major impacts on this field and everyone from customers to employees to the communities they live in.”

“We are delighted to enter the HAI corporate affiliates program at a time when artificial intelligence is changing the world at an unprecedented pace and unlocking previously unimagined possibilities,” said Alexander Vollert, AXA Group Chief Operating Officer. “As a global insurer, we’re eager to support this important research into the development of AI models that are trustworthy, human-centric and sustainable for our clients, industry and society as a whole.”

“By collaborating with Stanford HAI through the Corporate Affiliate Program, we aim to explore how we can unlock value from artificial intelligence in a responsible and sustainable manner, and continue to position ourselves for the future opportunities it will offer,” said Andreas Schertzinger, AXA Group Chief Data, AI and Innovation Officer “This collaboration reflects our commitment to leveraging cutting-edge research to shape the future of the insurance industry and to create positive impacts for our customers and employees.”

“We’re thrilled to be working with AXA, the first global insurer in our Corporate Affiliate Program, as we continue to grow our program internationally,” said Panos Madamopoulos-Moraris, Stanford HAI managing director of the partnerships and industry program. “Insurance touches almost every consumer and company globally. As AI transitions to production at scale across an increasing number of use cases, we look forward to bridging Stanford's human-centered approach with real-world applications and exciting new research.”

The HAI Industrial Affiliate Program engages with companies that share HAI’s mission to advance AI research, education, policy, and practice to improve the human condition. The program provides the opportunity for these companies to interact with Stanford faculty as well as other corporate members, through educational experiences, lectures, research, and more.
