The Stanford Institute for Human-Centered Artificial Intelligence (HAI) is pleased to announce that Itaú Unibanco, the largest private financial institution in Latin America, has joined the Stanford HAI Industrial Affiliate Program.

The program brings industry together with Stanford experts to explore research, policy, and educational opportunities centered on responsibly building and implementing artificial intelligence.

As a new affiliate, Itaú Unibanco will collaborate with faculty and students to advance applied human-centered artificial intelligence research. The bank is particularly interested in research-to-product topics that bridge AI from theory to practical use, including responsible AI, new human–machine interfaces, and enhancing large language model reasoning—especially in the financial sector and for society at large.

“Stanford HAI’s mission is to advance AI research, education, and policy that prioritize human impact,” said HAI Co-director James Landay. “Collaborating with Itaú Unibanco provides an excellent opportunity to explore how AI can transform the financial services sector in ways that benefit individuals, businesses, and communities globally.”

”As the first Latin American company to join the program, we are very proud and excited to share our learnings and absorb good practices from around the world in the use of AI. We believe that humans and technology must evolve side by side, as the true potential of artificial intelligence can only be reached when we combine them,” said Carlos Eduardo Mazzei, Director of Technology at Itaú Unibanco.

The HAI Industrial Affiliate Program engages with companies that share HAI’s mission to advance AI research, education, policy, and practice to improve the human condition. The program provides the opportunity for members to interact with Stanford faculty and researchers through collaborative research initiatives, educational experiences, lectures, and more.
